Wanjidari, whose language name translates as "little white flower" has been
painting professionally since the early eighties. Her paintings are unique, not only in
aboriginal art but in fine art generally.
By expressing the traditional Aboriginal motifs and stories using modern materials and her
natural instinct for colour, form and texture, Wanjidari creates breathtaking works that
have immediate appeal to collectors, art dealers and a wide cross section of the art
loving public.
Wanjidari incorporates in her paintings both the traditions of European art and the
traditions of her people. Her mother's people are the Wadji Wadji people of Woorabinda and
her father's people come from Lockhart River on Queensland's Cape York Peninsula.
Using her skills and acquired disciplines, Wanjidari is lifting the traditional historic
images of her ancestors to the category of fine art. Her subject matter and
conceptualization have earned Wanjidari an important place in Australian art which this
modest and unassuming young artist quietly accepts but is not permitted to overshadow
other priorities in her life.
Wanjidari has had a number of exhibitions in Australia plus one in Palm Springs, USA and
in Hamburg in Germany. Her paintings can be found in many private and corporate
collections in England, Ireland, Germany, South Africa, Japan, USA, Canada as well as
Australia where former Prime Minister, Bob Hawke is a known collector.
