For years Geisel's father, a zoo superintendent in Springfield, assachusetts, had sent Ted beaks, horns and antlers from deceased zoo animals.  Ted's irresistable creative urge lead to the reincarnation of these artifacts as whimsical and surreal Seussian creatures.
